Advanced Security Checklist for WordPress

You invest time and money in your WordPress site — but is it really protected?
With the increase in cyber attacks, especially on poorly configured WordPress sites, security needs to be a priority. Here is a technical and strategic checklist that I apply to projects to ensure maximum protection:
🔐 1. Secure Login
- Activate 2-factor authentication (2FA)
- Hide the default login URL (/wp-login.php)
- Limit failed access attempts
🧱 2. Hardening WordPress
- Disable file editing through the panel (wp-config.php)
- Restrict folder and file permissions
- Block XML-RPC if not in use
📦 3. Regular Backups
- Automate full backups (files + database)
- Store on external services (Google Drive, S3, etc.)
- Test the restore frequently
🛡️ 4. Firewall and Monitoring
- Use WAFs (like Cloudflare, Wordfence or MalCare)
- Activate real-time alerts
- Monitor access logs and plugin activity
🔄 5. Plugins and Themes
- Install only from trusted sources
- Keep everything updated (including WP itself)
- Remove inactive plugins and unused themes
🔍 6. Vulnerability Scanning
- Use tools like WPScan or SiteCheck
- Schedule monthly or weekly scans

Security in WordPress goes far beyond installing an antivirus plugin. It involves strategy, constant updating and a culture of prevention. 🔧💻
