PHP: the brains behind WordPress

If there is one language that every WordPress developer NEEDS to know, it is PHP.

After all, it is with it that WordPress processes requests, renders pages, connects to the database and interprets practically everything that is in your theme or plugin.

💡 Anyone who understands PHP can truly master WordPress.

It is with PHP that you:

  • Create classic themes from scratch (and understand how they really work);
  • Customize functions via functions.php or plugins;
  • Use hooks (actions and filters) to change the core’s behavior without touching the core;
  • Optimizes queries and improves performance;
  • Integrates data securely and efficiently.

🔧 Without PHP, you may even know how to “use WordPress”, but it won’t go much further than what the panel offers.

📌 Want a tip to evolve quickly? Start by studying the loop, the template hierarchy and how hooks work. This trio changes everything.

And you, how far does your PHP domain go in WordPress? Can you create a classic theme from scratch, or do you still rely on occasional adjustments?
