Vibe Coding and AI in web development: potential and precautions

Recently, I read an article in Estadão about “vibe coding”, a term used to describe the approach that uses artificial intelligence to transform natural language descriptions into functional code.
In my daily life as a WordPress and React developer, I already use tools such as Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot in VS Code, ChatGPT and Google Gemini – whenever company policies allow, and with the utmost care to not expose sensitive information or exclusive business rules.
These tools help to accelerate prototypes, suggest patterns, generate documentation and even act as a type of “sparring” (pair programming) — that training partner that challenges your ideas, helps you think better and improves solutions.
But the article also brings important warnings:
- Prototyping is not scaling
- AI-generated code may contain security flaws
- Without review, the risk of code problems accumulating (so-called “technical debt”) grows quickly
These points reinforce the importance of having a solid technical base and knowing how to structure good prompts, to obtain more assertive results with less rework.
The coding vibe is an ally. But like any ally, it requires maturity, experience and responsibility to generate real value.
And you, are you already surfing this wave with conscience?
